Abstract:

A model has been proposed by elaborating Daft-Weick model to describe the organizational environmental scanning in a more detailed way. The model is suitable for defense organization. To this end, a new dimension has been added to Daft-Weick model and 8 resulting modes of scanning has been explained. In each mode, information need, information use, information recourse scanning functions, techniques and managerial traits has been discussed. To determine the position of organization in the model, questionnaires have been designed to transform qualitative expert judgments to quantitative values. Organizational position will be determined by this way and means to scanning will be proposed. The model has been implemented in a defense organization and the results have been discussed.

Abstract:

Background and Objective: It is well accepted that accommodation system is characterized by steady state error in focus. Usually near addition lenses are prescribed to prepresbyopic individual for treatment of binocular motor problems such as convergence excess and accommodative disorder. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the near addition lenses in accommodative and vergence responses at three viewing distances.Materials and Methods: This semi-experimental study was done on 42 students of 17-25 years old in Zahedan, South-Eastern Iran during 2009. After correction of refractive error, phoria states with APCT and binocular and monocular lag of accommodation by MEM method with and without +2.00 lenses in three difference distances (30, 40, 50 cm) was measured. Data analyzed by ANOVA, t-student and paired t-tests.Results: There was significant difference between average of lag of accommodation and phoria at various distances, with and without lens (P<0.05). Also, there was significant difference between mean of lag in 3 fixation distance (P<0.017). There was no significant difference between average of lag of accommodation and phoria at various distances in three group of refractive error. Conclusion: Our results showed that, near addition lens reduce the lag of accommodation. It is proposed, therefore, according to near emmetropization theory addition lenses may be effective in reducing of the myopia progression.

LET XB BE A SOFIC B-SHIFT FOR BÎ(1, 2]. WE SHOW THAT THERE IS AN S -GAP SHIFT X (S) SUCH THAT XB AND X (S) ARE RIGHT-RESOLVING ALMOST CONJUGATE. CONVERSELY, A CONDITION ON S Í N È{0} IS GIVEN SUCH THAT FOR THIS S, THERE IS A B SUCH THAT X (S) AND XB HAVE THE SAME EQUIVALENCY. WE SHOW THAT IF XB IS SFT, THEN THERE IS AN S -GAP SHIFT CONJUGATE TO THIS XB; HOWEVER, IF XB IS NOT SFT, THEN NO S -GAP SHIFT IS CONJUGATE TO XB.

Abstract:

Objectives: Optimum viewing conditions facilitate identification of radiographic details and decrease the need for retakes, patients’ costs and radiation dose. This study sought to evaluate the effects of different viewing conditions on radiographic interpretation.Materials and Methods: This diagnostic study was performed by evaluating radiograph of a 7mm-thick aluminum block, in which 10 holes with 2mm diameters were randomly drilled with depths ranging from 0.05 mm to 0.50mm. The radiograph was viewed by four oral radiologists independently under four viewing conditions, including a white light viewing light box in a lit room, yellow light viewing light box in a lit room, white light viewing light box in a dark room and yellow light viewing light box in a dark room. Number of circular shadows observed on the film was recorded. The data were analyzed by two-way ANOVA.Results: The mean number of detected circular shadows was 6.75, 7.5, 7.25 and 7.75 in white light viewing light box in a lit room, white light viewing light box in a dark room, yellow light viewing light box in a lit room and yellow light viewing light box in a dark room, respectively. Although the surrounding illumination had statistically significant effect on the radiographic details (P≤0.03), the light color of the viewing light box had no significant effect on visibility of the radiographic details. Conclusion: White and yellow light of the viewing light box had no significant effect on visibility of the radiographic details but more information was obtained in a dark room.

Abstract:

Background and purpose: Several laboratories have developed culture systems including maturation factors for human DC from peripheral blood monocytes. We comprehensively studied the effect of addition of poly (I-C) to standard maturation stimulus, MCM and TNF-a on maturation of monocyte derived DCs and their ability to elicit T cell responses.Materials and methods: A short (4-day) priming of plastic adherent monocytes with granulocytemacrophage colony stimulating factor (GM-CSF) and interleukin-4 (IL-4) followed by allogenic tumor antigen pulsing and addition of MCM and TNF-a with or without poly (I-C) to generate fully mature and stable DCs. Phenotypic and functional analysis were carried out using anti CD14, HLA-DR and CD83 monoclonal antibodies, mixed lymphocyte reaction (MLR), phagocytic activity and cytokine release by DC stimulated T lymphocytes. Results: We found that fully matured DCs with large amount cytoplasm and copious dendritic projections were visible at the end of culturing period in the presence of MCM and TNF-a with or without rpoly (I-C). Flow cytometric analysis using anti-CD14, HLA-DR and CD83 revealed that addition of poly (I-C) to conventional maturation factors results in decreased expression of CD14 and increased expression of HLA-DR and CD83. Functionally, MCM and TNF-a with poly (I-C) treated DCs showed a little stronger mixed leukocyte reaction Analysis of phagocytic activity showed that addition of poly (I-C) reduced FITC-conjugated bead uptake and increased mean fluorescent intensity (MFI) of phagocytic DCs. Furthermore our results revealed that additional treatment of DCs with poly (I-C) results in reduction of IL-12: IL-10 and IFN-γ: IL-4 ratios in DC and DC-primed T cell supernatants respectively. Conclusion: Our results support this idea that use of the MCM, TNF-a and poly (I-C) as maturation factor could gnerates more mature monocyte derived DCs that prime T lymphocytes to TH2 type cytokine release.
